Earnings above the current Social Security tax cap should also be subject to the Social Security payroll tax.

The 6.2 percent Social Security payroll tax applies only to wages up to a yearly cap, $184,500 in 2026. Applying it above the cap would raise more money for Social Security from higher earners.

Getting rid of the cap on Social Security has been something that has been consistently talked about... Making sure that wealthier people pay the same rate that working class people do would definitely strengthen the Social Security system overall.
